One of the greatest misconceptions about spiritual growth is believing it happens automatically. Time alone doesn't produce maturity. Plenty of people have attended church for decades while remaining spiritually stagnant. Growth happens when we continually surrender ourselves to Christ and allow Him to shape us through His Word, His Spirit, and His people.
That last one can be the hardest.
God often grows us through relationships.
Sometimes He encourages us through someone else's faith. Other times He convicts us through honest conversations. He teaches us through mentors, strengthens us through friendships, and reminds us of His grace through people who simply choose to walk beside us.
That's why isolation is so dangerous.
When we're disconnected, discouragement grows louder. Temptation becomes easier to justify. Our perspective narrows. Before long, we're trying to fight battles God never intended us to fight alone.
The Church is God's answer to that isolation. Every believer has something to contribute because every believer has received grace. Some teach. Some encourage. Some pray faithfully. Some serve quietly. Some simply show up consistently and remind others they aren't alone. Every gift matters because every member matters.
This week, don't settle for simply attending church. Pursue connection. Take one intentional step toward community. Invite someone to lunch. Join a Life Group. Ask another believer how you can pray for them. If you're already connected, invest even deeper in someone else's growth.
Healthy disciples help make healthy disciples. Perhaps the most encouraging truth is that God isn't asking us to become someone else. He's simply inviting us to become more like Jesus. That transformation happens one decision, one conversation, one act of obedience, and one day at a time.
Don't become discouraged if growth feels slower than you'd like. Healthy roots develop long before healthy fruit appears. God is patient with His children because He knows what He is producing.
Keep abiding. Keep trusting. Keep growing. And remember, you never have to grow alone.
