Luke opens the book of Acts with a reminder to Theophilus—and to us—that the story of Jesus didn’t end with His resurrection or His ascension. It continues through His people. “In my former book,” Luke writes, “I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach.” Jesus began the mission. Now He continues that mission through every believer empowered by the Holy Spirit. What started in Acts 1 hasn’t slowed down, and you and I are a part of the same unstoppable movement.
1. Jesus’ Mission Is Our Mission
Jesus told His followers, “You will be my witnesses.” A witness is someone who simply shares what they have seen, heard, and learned. Luke wants us to understand that the gospel didn’t stop with the original disciples—it multiplies through ordinary people who keep saying “yes” to Jesus.
The message of Jesus is unstoppable because it doesn’t depend on one generation, one culture, or one moment in history. You are part of an unbroken line of believers who carry the life-changing message of Jesus to the world.
This raises an important question: Where in your world—home, workplace, school, neighborhood—is Jesus continuing His work through you? Jesus doesn’t just call us to believe in Him. He calls us to continue what He began.
2. Waiting Leads to Witness
Before Jesus sent the disciples into the world, He told them to wait. Not because He was delaying the mission, but because they needed the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus promised, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you.” The Greek word for power is dynamis—the word from which we get “dynamite.” This isn’t personality strength.
It’s resurrection strength.
In Acts 2, we see the transformation that followed. Peter, who had once denied Jesus, became a bold, unshakable witness. What made the difference? The Spirit.
Boldness isn’t natural confidence—it’s Spirit-empowered courage.
The disciples couldn’t fulfill God’s mission by their own effort, and neither can we.
Here’s the good news: what they were waiting for is our reality. The Spirit has come and now lives in every believer. We don’t wait for His presence—but we do wait for His direction.
A simple daily prayer changes everything:
“Holy Spirit, fill me and guide me before I move. Show me where to go and how to go.”
3. The Mission Starts With Me
Jesus outlined a clear strategy:
Wherever you are and whatever you are doing, you are God’s strategy for reaching the world.
God has given you:
4. The Mission Moves Me
As Jesus ascended, the disciples stood staring into the sky until two angels shook them back to reality: “Why do you stand here looking into the sky?” In other words, Don’t get stuck staring—start sharing.
The unstoppable Church doesn’t wait for the next big moment. It moves forward in obedience until Jesus returns.
But how do we actually live this out? How do we become the witnesses Jesus calls us to be?
