Everyday life brings pressure, uncertainty, responsibilities, and worries that can weigh on both our hearts and minds. In this practical series, we will discover how God meets us in our anxiety, exhaustion, uncertainty, and overload. His truth can steady our thoughts, guard our hearts, and give us the wisdom and strength to face everyday stress every day.

  • You can select which thoughts you allow to stay.
  • You can choose how you respond to people.
  • You don’t have to carry everything yourself.
  • You can be real with God when you hurt or your heart is heavy.

Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.  PHILLIPIANS 4:6-7

You cannot control every thought that enters your mind, but you can choose which thoughts you allow to stay.  - Pastor Mike

HEART & MIND READINGS

Each week, read the passage from Sunday’s message and take one simple step to live what you are learning.

Week 1:  When Your Mind Won’t Stop
God’s peace can guard our hearts and minds as we bring our worries to Him and redirect our thoughts toward truth.
Read: Philippians 4:4–9
Live It: Make two short lists: What I’m worried about and What I know is true. Pray through the first list, then use Scripture and what you know about God to fill the second.

Week 2:  When People Get Under Your Skin
We may not control what other people do, but God can transform how we respond.
Read: James 1:19–27 and Ephesians 4:25–32
Live It: Choose one relationship where you have been frustrated or impatient. This week, intentionally practice being quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger before responding.

Week 3: When You’re Carrying Too Much

God calls us to faithfulness, not to carrying everything ourselves. We can care deeply without carrying everything.
Read: Exodus 18:13–24 and Galatians 6:2–5
Live It: Write down what feels heavy right now. Ask: What is mine to carry? What can someone else carry? What do I need to trust God with? Take one action based on your answers.

Week 4: When Your Heart Is Heavy
God meets us in our exhaustion and pain before He moves us toward what is next. A heavy heart does not mean we have lost our faith.
Read: 1 Kings 19:1–18
Live It: Set aside 15 quiet minutes with God. Tell Him honestly what is making your heart heavy.  Then ask, “God, what is my next faithful step?” Write down one step and take it this week.

Stress may explain your reaction, but it doesn’t have to control your response.

Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable... dwell on these things.   PHILIPPIANS 4:8
